About the Class
In this rock band class, students ages 14-18 will learn what it really means to play in a band. This isn’t just about learning songs, it’s about learning how to listen, lock in, and collaborate. Each student will be responsible not only for their individual part but also for being in sync with the rest of the group, the way athletes on a team rely on one another. We’ll explore 4–5 musical styles over the course of the semester, including everything from classic rock to funk, pop, r&b and beyond. Each member of the band will choose one song to play, incorporating their own personal music preferences.
Sheet music and charts will be provided, and students will learn to read and interpret those charts the way real working musicians do. Each semester will culminate in a live performance, and students will walk away with the experience of being in a real band—tight, focused, and creatively alive.
Note: Each session is limited to 2-3 singers, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 keyboard, and 1 drummer. Additional sessions will be added to the schedule to meet demand as needed.
