By enrolling in private lessons and/or group programs, you agree to the following policies.
Lesson Policies
Contact
Contact hours are Monday through Friday 9 AM- 5 PM. We’ll respond to any weekend communications Monday morning. For students under 18 years old, communication should be from parents/guardians only, but if a student needs to contact us directly please have them do so in a group message including their parent/guardian.

Cancellations and Rescheduling
Students must provide at least 24 hours advance notice of cancellation. As long as 24 hours notice is given, students will be allowed to reschedule any missed lessons. Students are responsible to pay for lessons canceled without 24 hours notice, and will not be able to reschedule the missed lesson. Exceptions will be made for sudden illness and family emergencies only. In the case of severe weather, lessons will be conducted online via Zoom.
If a student consistently needs to reschedule two or more of their lessons per month, they will be asked to switch to a time slot they can consistently make or switch to a la carte scheduling and pricing (subject to weekly availability).
Prorating
If you will be away and would like to prorate tuition, you must request it before the start of the month, as tuition is due on the 1st of every month. For example: if you’re going away the third week of April, you must request prorating in March. Please understand that prorating will be done at the studio’s discretion, and is reserved for instances in which the student or teacher is away for a week or more (not for lessons that could be easily rescheduled).
Tardiness
Students/parents should contact their teacher by phone if they expect to be late for a lesson. If a student arrives after their scheduled lesson time has begun, the end time will remain the same. If the teacher is late to a lesson, they will be happy to extend the end time or add missed lesson time onto a future lesson to compensate for their tardiness.
Health & Safety
If the student or a family member is sick- even if it seems mild, we ask that you please reschedule that lesson (we will waive the 24-hour cancellation policy in cases of sudden illness). This is for the safety of the whole studio (as we see many students per day and equipment is shared), as well as for our own families’ safety. Please understand that if you come to a lesson knowingly sick, you will be asked to leave and a reschedule/refund will not be given.
Payment
Payment is due on the 1st of every month. You can pay directly through your invoice via debit/credit card or ACH transfer. We also accept cash, checks, and tap to pay transactions at the studio (not available for in-home lessons). Please note that a late fee of $20 will be added to any payments received after the 7th of the month.
Practice Expectations
Each student is unique, and practice times will differ based on their age, skill level, and goals. However, we do expect that all students will practice 5 times per week, 15 minutes each time minimum. An individualized practice plan will be assigned at their first lesson, and may change as they advance.
Leaves of Absence
Sometimes situations arise that mean students need to take time off from lessons. Should you need to take a leave of absence at any point, please understand that we will not be able to hold your time slot, lesson pricing, or spot on a specific teacher’s roster while you’re gone. If a leave of absence occurs the month before a recital, competition, MEA-NJ audition, or other performance, the student will have to wait for the next one to participate in order to ensure adequate preparation.
Grounds for Dismissal
Most issues that come up can be solved with open communication, however these grounds for dismissal are in place in order to be clear up front. Students will be asked to leave the studio for the following reasons:
-
Three no-shows (no notice given).
-
Consistent late payment (three months or more)
-
Issues with behavior/respect. We’re very grateful for the family atmosphere we have within the studio, and love to see students supporting each other! It’s important that the studio remains a safe space for all, and if we notice repeated disrespectful behavior from a student or parent/guardian they will be dismissed to protect the safe space we’ve created.

Tuition and Schedule
Group classes run from September 8th, 2025 through May 31st, 2026, and account for all holidays seen on the Cranford School District Calendar.
All group classes run on a semester schedule, and both monthly and semester (5% off) payment plans are available. All paid tuition is non-refundable (this includes both monthly and semester payment plans). Both monthly and semesterly payment plans are based on the total, annual cost of the program divided into equal payments for convenience. Installments are not based on the number of classes in a month. Account balances are drafted in equal monthly payments, from the time of registration through May 1.

Students in Rock Band I, Rock Band II, House Band, KG Voices I, and KG Voices II must also be enrolled in at least one half hour lesson per week to be eligible to enroll. The multiple class discount applies in these cases. Students in Rock Rotation, Songwriting, Music Production & Beat-Making, and Adult Rock Band are not required to take a private lesson to be eligible to enroll.
Discounts
Multiple Class Discount (per student): 10% off each additional class of equal or lesser value. Can be applied to group class/private lesson combination.
Sibling Discount: 10% off the second child’s tuition of equal or lesser value.
Absences and Cancellations
Students who miss class may arrange to take another class appropriate for their age within two weeks of their initial absence. Make-up classes are not guaranteed if a student isn’t available for a class within the studio’s advertised class schedule. Should classes be cancelled due to instructor absence and no substitute is available, the class will be rescheduled. Holidays and school breaks (in alignment with Cranford School District Calendar), are factored into the tuition.
Prorating
Tuition is only prorated when a student enrolls late, and is only done for the first month of any given session (September and January). Tuition is not prorated due to student absences or months with less than four classes.
Withdrawal and Leave of Absence
Written notice of withdrawal must be received at least 30 days prior to the next installment due date (1st of the month) in order to prevent further charges and/or auto-drafts. Tuition charges and auto-drafts will continue to process as scheduled
until such notice is received. Students with accounts in good standing may continue to attend all classes remaining in the program within the 30 days following their notice of withdrawal. If a balance remains for tuition due prior to the date of notice, or if notice is received less than 30 days from the next payment due date, KG Music Studio reserves the right to auto-draft the total past-due balance/pending installment using the method of payment on file.
Should a student take a leave of absence or decide to discontinue, their spot will be offered to new incoming students. Please note that students who take a leave of absence or withdraw will not be eligible to participate in performances after the 30 days following their notice of withdrawal.
Health & Safety
If the student or a family member is sick- even if it seems mild, we ask that you please stay home. This is for the safety of the whole studio, as we see many students per day and equipment is shared. Please understand that if you come to a class knowingly sick, you will be asked to leave and a reschedule/refund will not be given.
Inclement Weather/State of Emergency Cancellations
KG Music Studio generally follows the Cranford Public Schools when determining class cancellations. In the event of inclement weather or a state of emergency, classes and/or workshops are subject to be moved to a virtual format powered by ZOOM or a makeup class will be added to the end of the semester. Families will be informed via email as early as possible to avoid inconvenience.
Payment
All clients must place a valid credit card on file to register for any class regardless of payment method and installment plan. Payment is automatically withdrawn from your account’s credit card on file on the 1st of each month. Clients will be charged a 2.50% processing fee per transaction if paying by credit card.
If you plan to pay by cash or check before tuition is auto-drafted, please do so before the first of the month. Make checks payable to KG Music Studio and hand it directly to the front desk staff or mail to KG Music Studio, 2335 Westfield Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 before the 1st of the month. Please note that there is a $20 Fee added for all returned checks. Cash must be handed directly to the front desk staff at drop-off. Please email info@kgmusicstudionj.com with your intent to pay tuition by alternate means before the 1st of the month, in order to halt the pending auto-charge.

Payments received after the 8th of the month will be charged a $20 late fee.
Additional Fees
Tuition does not include admission for any attendees to any performance. Ticket fees vary per performance and are determined by the cost of the rental venue and any associated box office service fees.
Photo/Video Consent
KG Music Studio has my permission to use my or my child's image publicly for promotional purposes. I understand that the images/videos may be used in print publications, online publications, websites and social media. I also understand that no royalty, fee or other compensation shall become payable to me by reason of such use.
Behavior
To ensure a positive and productive learning environment, all students and parents are expected to adhere to a strict code of conduct. This includes refraining from any inappropriate touching, hitting, yelling, or bullying towards other students, parents, staff, or faculty. Failure to comply with this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the studio.
Consistent unpreparedness or disruptive behavior in class by a student will lead to a scheduled parent/teacher meeting. Please be aware that ongoing disruptive behavior may ultimately result in your child being permanently removed from the class.
